Danny Roman Stops Ramiro Robles in 5 at Ontario Doubletree

Thompson Boxing Promotions kicked off its 2016 season Friday night at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California as Garden Grove's Danny Roman squared off against Ramiro Robles of Mexico for the WBA-NABA title in the scheduled ten round super bantamweight main event.

Robles charged at the opening bell as Roman boxed and countered. Roman continued to box and connected the aggressive Robles in round two with a solid left hook to the body both fighters closed the round trading away. The southpaw Robles continued to be the aggressor in round three as Roman sat in the pocket boxing away connecting solidly but that did not stop Robles. Fighting at close quarters in round four Roman countered with Robles punching away. Roman boxed and attacked the body in round five as a crunching left hook to the body did it referee Raul Caiz Sr. reached a ten count at 1:55.
Daniel Roman improves his record to 18-2-1, 6 KO's. Ramiro Robles goes to 12-5-1, 7 KO's.
Heavyweight Laron Mitchell of San Francisco continued his knockout streak with an easy and weird first round stoppage over Juan Manuel Dominguez in a scheduled six rounder. Dominguez was down early but from a shove as he got up it seemed he didnt want to fight as referee Eddie Hernandez asked him if he wanted to continue, Dominguez refused as the fight was stopped at 1:18.

Laron Mitchell stays undefeated at 11-0, 11 KO's. Juan Manuel Dominguez goes to 6-5, 4KO's.
Hemet's Fernando Fuentes and Jorge Ruiz of San Diego squared off in a scheduled six round featherweight bout. Fuentes came out attacking the body backing Ruiz up and later landing a solid right hand. In round two Fuentes busted Ruiz's nose as he was all over him. Continuing his attack in round three Fuentes landed a looping right hand and was effective on the inside connecting solidly on Ruiz.
The second half of the fight saw Ruiz step it up as he boxed well in the fourth round connecting on Fuentes. In round five Fuentes and Ruiz clinched up and fought inside for most of the round. The sixth and final round Fuentes outworked and attacked Ruiz on the inside as Ruiz boxed. After six rounds all three judges scored the bout 59-55 for Fernando Fuentes.

Super middleweight Rudy Puga of Salinas scored a second round knockout over Alejandro Osuna of Mazatlan, Mexico in a scheduled six rounder. Puga connected with the straight right on Osuna early in round one but later in what seemed to be a shove by Puga referee Eddie Hernandez ruled it a knockdown. A left hook to the body in round two crunched Osuna as Puga followed up with a series of punches Osuna went down for good as the referee reached a ten count at 1:48.

Rudy Paga goes to 7-0, 6 KO's. Alejandro Osuna goes to 3-2, 2 KO's.
Super welterweight Miguel Trejo of Anaheim made quick of Thomas Howard from Miami in one round of a scheduled six rounder. Trejo chased Howard and landed big in the opening round, a huge straight right sent Howard to the canvas as referee Raul Caiz Sr. stopped the fight at 2:28.
Miguel Trejo goes to 4-0, 3 KO's. Tom Howard goes to 8-7, 4 KO's.
In the opening bout super bantamweights Jhordy Ramirez of Santa Maria and Tijuana's Juan Carlos Diaz battled it out for. Ramirez landed some solid left hooks early in the opening round. However Diaz stepped it up in round two as he backed Ramirez to the ropes with a solid right and continued to pound away knocking down Ramirez. In round three Ramirez landed a solid right hand as he followed up hitting Diaz behind the head as the referee Eddie Hernandez warned him. As the fight was close heading to the final round Ramirez boxed smart behind the jabbed and countered as Diaz punched wildly.

All three judges scored the bout 38-37 as Ramirez squeaks by with the unanimous decision. Jhordy Ramirez goes to 2-0, 1 KO as Juan Carlos Diaz 0-2.
