Ronny Rios Stops Efrain Esquivias in 2 at Belasco LA Fight Club


Golden Boy Promotions kicked off an exciting weekend of boxing Friday night as Ronny Rios of Santa Ana scored a second round stoppage over Efrain Esquivias of Carson at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles in the LA Fight Club on the Boxeo Estelar on Estrella TV main event.

Rios came out aggressive connecting on Esquivias attacking the body following to the head, a right hand in the final seconds of round one dropped Esquivias. A barrage by Rios in round two forced referee Raul Caiz Jr. to stop the fight at 37 seconds into the second round.

Ronny Rios with the win goes to 26-1, 11 KO's as Efrain Esquivias goes to 17-5-1, 10 KO's.

Undefeated super lightweight prospect Zachary "Zungry" Ochoa of Brooklyn scored a knockout over Luis Joel Gonzalez of Puerto Rico in the LA Fight Club co-main event. Ochoa landed a solid right hand early on in round one snapping Gonzalez's head. Gonzalez staggered Ochoa in round three buckling his knees as Ochoa almost went down. Keeping his composure Ochoa boxed patiently in round four keeping his distance from the aggressive southpaw Gonzalez. A huge right hand by Ochoa in the eighth and final round knocked out Gonzalez cold as the referee immediately waived it at 41 seconds.

Zachary Ochoa stays unbeaten at 15-0, 7 KO's as Luis Joel Gonzalez goes to 11-4-1, 6 KO's.

The ladies were in action as East L.A.'s Seniesa Estrada won a decision over Christina Fuentes of Laredo, Texas in a scheduled six round flyweight bout opening up the Estrella TV telecast. Estrada cornered Fuentes in the opening round landing a flurry of punches. The third round saw Estrada connect with one-two combinations however a right hand dropped Estrada but Fuentes landed a punch on Estrada as she was down forcing referee Raul Caiz Jr. to deduct a point from Fuentes. Going toe to toe in round four Estrada used here quickness as Fuentes threw big punches throughout the round. Estrada kept her composure and boxed well in round five tagging Fuentes with combinations. The sixth and final round Estrada was slick moving in and out as Fuentes pressured. In the end the judges scored the bout 59-54, 59-54, and 58-54.

Other bouts

Rafael "El Alikin" Gramajo of Los Angeles and Harold Reyes of Puerto Rico went the distance in a six-round bantamweight bout. Gramajo chased the slick Reyes in the opening round. Reyes continued to stick and move in round two as Gramajo adapted to the speed. The pressure began to get to Reyes in round three as Gramajo landed a solid left hook. Gramajo appeared to be frustrated in the fourth round as Reyes boxed and circled the ring but Gramajo continued to stick pressure. The Puerto Rican landed a quick flush right on Gramajo in round five as Reyes continued to box but Gramajo landed a left hook continuing to apply pressure. The sixth and final round saw Gramajo pressure with Reyes playing it safe keeping his distance boxing. Scores were 59-55, 59-55, and 58-56.

Rafael Gramajo improves to 8-1-1, 2 KO's. Harold Reyes goes to 2-6-1.

Super bantamweight Pablo "The Shark" Rubio Jr. dominated Jorge Perez of Riverside going the distance in a scheduled six round bout. Rubio boxed and landed solidly as Perez pressed forward in the opening round. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. deducted a point from Perez for butting in round two, trading away Rubio got the better of the exchange as a huge left hook knocked off Perez's mouthpiece. Fighting on the inside in round three Rubio knocked Perez's mouthpiece for a third time with a combination. Rubio continued his dominance but credit to Perez bloodied and all for being tough making it to the distance. Scores were 60-53, 59-54, and 59-54.

Pablo Rubio now stands at 6-0, 3 KO's. Jorge Perez goes to 2-3, 1 KO.

In the opening bout from the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles Tenochtitlan "T-Dog" Nava won a unanimous decision over David Montes of El Paso, Texas in a scheduled four round super featherweight bout. Nava landed some big punches and outworked Montes for four rounds in route to a decision win. All three judges scored the bout 40-36.

Nava goes to 2-0 as David Montes goes to 0-3.
