Former Champ Giovanni Segura KO's Ernesto Guerrero in 3


Boxing returned to the Model City Saturday night as WBA featherweight champion Leo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz's Last Round Promotions hosted its second boxing card featuring former world champion and 2004 Mexican Olympian Giovanni Segura of Bell by way of Guerrero, Mexico scored a third round knockout over Mexico City's Ernesto Guerrero in the main event at the Commerce Hotel & Casino in Commerce, California.

A crunching left hook to the body by Segura sent Guerrero to the canvas for good as the referee reached a ten count at 1:23 of the third round. Giovanni Segura improves to 38-4, 29 KO's as Ernesto Guerrero goes to 22-18, 15 KO's

In the co main event Jose "Gallo"Gomez of Huntington Park, made quick work of Bryan Perez of Puerto Rico in a scheduled six round featherweight bout. A huge right uppercut by Gomez as the referee Zachary Young immediately waived the bout at 2:15.

Jose Gomez stays undefeated as a prospect improving to 7-0, 2 KO. Perez goes to 2-5-1.

Other Bouts

Mexican super featherweights Jose Ramirez of Mazatlan, Mexico won a unanimous decision over Giovanni Caro of Mexico City squared off in a scheduled eight round bout. Ramirez and Caro exchanged early on as both fighters did not take a step back. The referee warned Ramirez for a low blow in round five as they fought on the inside. Ramirez pressed his way to a decision as Caro held his ground 60-54, 60-54, and 59-55.

Jose Ramirez improves to 28-6, Caro goes to 26-19-4, 21 KO's.

Mexicali's Victor Betancourt stopped Jose Luis Hernandez in four rounds in a scheduled eight round super featherweight bout. Slugging it out Betancourt pressed the southpaw Hernandez in the early rounds. The Mexicali fighter continued to pummel Hernandez for the rest of the fight as the corner stopped the bout at the end of round four.

Victor Betancourt improves his record to 21-1, 16 KO's. Jose Luis Hernandez goes to 18-8-1, 8 KO's.

Los Angeles's Ruben Martinez won a unanimous decision over Jose Ruiz in a scheduled four round lightweight bout. Martinez outworked his way against Ruiz in route to the decision win as all three judges scored the bout 40-36.

Martinez improves to 4-0, 1 KO. Ruiz goes to 0-1

Bantamweights Antonio Santa Cruz, the cousin of Leo Santa Cruz scored a second round knockout over Carlos Ramirez in a scheduled four round bout. A crunching body shot by Santa Cruz dropped Ramirez as the referee waived it at 2:50.

Santa Cruz improves to 3-2, 2 KO's.

Making his professional debut Ricardo Cuellar scored a third round knockout over Daniel Gutierrez of Tijuana in a scheduled four round featherweight bout.

Ricardo Cuellar wins his professional debut as he now stands at 1-0, 1 KO.

In attendance and seated at ringside was the promoter and champ Leo Santa Cruz along with his brother former world champion Jose Armando Santa Cruz and father/trainer Jose Santa Cruz. Also seated at ringside WBC super lightweight champion Viktor "Ice Man" Postol, former world champions Daniel Ponce De Leon, and Mike Achondo. Local welterweight Aron Martinez, lightweight Ivan Redkach, WBC women's middleweight contender Maria Cornejo and fan favorite Jesus Soto Karass.
