LA Fight Club Results


It was Mexico vs. Puerto Rico Friday night in the LA Fight Club main event as middleweights Antonio Gutierrez of Tijuana took on Puerto Rico's Jorge Melendez at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Melendez sent Gutierrez to the canvas in round two with a right hand. Despite being down early in the fight Gutierrez got off the canvas and pressured Melendez for the second half of the fight. The two continued to stand and trade late in the fight as Melendez suffered a cut on his left cheek. In the tenth and final round Melendez and Gutierrez continued to trade as the fight was close with both finishing strong going toe to toe.

In the end the judges scored the bout 97-92, 97-92, and 96-93 as Gutierrez wins a unanimous decision.

Undefeated lightweight Buena Park's Christian "Chimpa" Gonzalez scored a second round knockout over Jonathan Corrales of Mexico in the scheduled eight round lightweight co-main event. A double left hook by Gonzalez dropped Corrales in the opening round. A right, left combo by Chimpa dropped Corrales for good as the referee waived at 1:57 of the second.

"Chimpa" Gonzalez improves to 15-0, 13 KO's. Corrales goes to 8-4-2, 3 KO's.

Opening up the Boxeo Estelar on Estrella TV telecast Mexican lightweight Oscar Duarte on a hard fought unanimous decision over Rafael Reyes in scheduled four round bout. A left hook by Duarte in round two dropped Reyes but it was not easy for Duarte as Reyes fought a valiant fight. All three judges scored the bout 38-37 as the knockdown proved to be the difference.

Duarte improves to 7-0-1, 3 KO's. Reyes goes to 6-9, 5 KO's.

Local prospect Tenochtitlan Nava of Los Angeles stopped Juan Bryand of Laredo, Texas in three rounds of a scheduled four round super featherweight bout. Nava came out swinging at the bell cornering Bryand and stayed on top of him pressuring him as the referee waived the fight at 1:47 of the third round.

Nava improves to 3-0, 1 KO. Bryand goes to 1-5-1

Washington D.C's Lamont Roach Jr. was impressive scoring a third round knockout over Mario Macias of Mexico City in a scheduled eight round lightweight bout. Roach came out strong attacking Macias in the opening round and scored a knockdown in the final seconds of the round. A crisp left hook by Roach in the closing seconds of round two sent Macias to the canvas as he got up. Roach started where he left off in round three as he sent Macias to the canvas with another left hook the referee waived it at 7 seconds of round three.

Lamont Roach Jr remains undefeated as a prospect and goes to 12-0, 4 KO's. Macias goes to 26-20, 14 KO's.

Featherweight Edgar Valerio of Los Angeles had his hands full against Emmanuel Castro of Los Mochis, Sinaloa Mexico winning a technical decision in the LA Fight Club opening bout at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Valerio suffered a cut on his left eye in round two from a headbutt. Despite being cut Valerio kept his composure and boxed the aggressive and tough Castro. However another clash of heads opened up the cut more as the referee waived the bout upon the request of the ringside physician at 2:54 of the fifth round. The judges scored the bout 50-45, 50-45, and 49-46,

Edgar Valerio stays undefeated improving to 8-0, 4 KO's. Emmanuel Castro goes to 2-3, 2 KO's.
