Garcia-Guerrero Post Fight

January 24, 2016

Following their fight Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Danny “Swift” Garcia of Philadelphia and Gilroy, California’s Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero spoke at the post fight press conference as the two battled it out for the vacant WBC welterweight title as boxing returned to FOX in the debut of PBC on FOX. In what was a competitive twelve rounds with the fight heading into the championship rounds Garcia and Guerrero sensed the urgency. Guerrero urged Garcia to stand and trade in the final round as the Ghost pressed forward aggressively, but in the final seconds the two fighters finished strong going toe to toe as all 12,052 fans were on their feet. In the end all three judges scored the bout 116-112 in favor of Garcia.

TGB President Tom Brown made the opening comments at the Chick Hearn press room.

"It was an honor to present the first show on Fox in almost 20 years. It was a great night of boxing," Brown said.

The newly crowned champion Danny Garcia spoke on his win at the post fight press conference.

"Tonight was a tough fight with Robert Guerrero. I knew he would come to fight but we executed on what we worked in training camp me and my dad," Danny Garcia said. "The game plan was to feel him out and box him, we knew he would be strong at the end, but we just had to stay composed and get the job done. I came here to do what I had to do and that's win the fight," Garcia added.

Garcia talked more about the twelfth round, "The twelve round I was just trying to make him miss that was part of our strategy I knew he was gonna go in and try to land those big shots so I didn't want to stand and trade with him but I closed it off at the end we stood toe to toe. Mexican fans they love a good fight and the way I closed the show, I feel I won them over they love blood and guts and I went toe to toe."

,

"I was able to time him. I noticed he did the same patterns during the fight so I adjusted. I am good at making adjustments and that's what we did,"  Garcia said. " The difference this fight is I was more athletic than him," Garcia added.

"I love big fights, I love when people dont want me to win, it brings the dog out in me," Garcia said.

Danny Garcia wins the vacant WBC welterweight title as he remains undefeated 32-0, 18 KO's.

"I am interested in whatever at the end of the day I am a champion at 147 and that's what champions do," Garcia said.

When asked if he would give Amir Khan a rematch, Garcia responded,"I don't have to fight anybody, he has been inactive for a year but like I said before I beat him once and I will beat him again."

"At the end of the day if that's what my team wants. I feel that we did,"

Angel  Garcia concluded.

"I want to thank god for being victorious and everyone, it was a great fight Guerrero did not win. Danny knows how to win, I am happy for him, bigger things coming for him in the future," Angel Garcia said. Khan No!, Guerreo No!, Herrera No,!

Robert Guerrero and his father Ruben Guerrero talked on the decision as they demanded a rematch.

"I thought I won that fight, but it is what it is but I would love that rematch. I thought he's from Philly, they fight come to fight right, they don't run, they don't hold and that's what happened," Robert Guerrero said in his opening comments. "I came out the fight feeling good. The fans loved it they thought I won I am just glad I gave them a good fight, they got what they came for," Guerrero added.

"I thought I had to do to win the fight I pushed the issue but Danny wanted to hold and run," Guerrero said. "There was a couple of times I had him buzzed but Danny came in great shape," Guerrero added.

Robert Guerrero goes to 33-4-1, 18 KOs in giving another exciting fight.

"Line them up I am willing to fight the best in the division. I would love to get the rematch," Guerrero said. "I would love to fight him in New York or Philadelphia. There is a lot of gas in the tank left, next time I will step on the gas more. I want to leave this sport knowing I fought the best," Guerrero added.

"You won that fight son. We won this fight. It's only fair we get the rematch, he ran and held. Robert pushed the fight," Ruben Guerrero said. "We will go fight him in Philadelphia in his hometown if we have to," Mr. Guerrero added.

Guerrero concluded by asking  a question to all the media.

"Do you guys want to see a rematch?"
