Andre Ward Squeaks by with Decision Over Sergey Kovalev
In what was a fight to settle the best light heavyweight in the world undefeated WBA, WBO, and IBF champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev of Russia and undefeated Andre “S.O.G.” Ward of Oakland, California squared off Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas live on HBO Pay per View.
Kovalev got off first as he dropped Ward in round two with short right hand. The Russian landed most of his shots from a distance as Ward tied him up throughout the fight. Ward was down 59-55 on all three scorecards as he rallied his way back. Round nine was the best round as Kovalev and Ward traded. However in the end all three judges scored it 114-113 as Ward pulled out the decision.
