Carl Frampton vs Leo Santa Cruz II LA Press Conference


The rematch has officially been set between WBA featherweight champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (23-0, 14 KOs) of Belfast, Ireland and former three-division world champion Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (32-1-1, 18 KOs) of Lincoln Heights, California by way of Huetamo, Michoacan, Mexico. Frampton and Santa Cruz wrapped up their press conference tour Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles at the Cafe Pinot in downtown Los Angeles as they will square off Saturday January 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena live on Showtime.

Ringstar Promotions Richard Schaefer opened things up.

"This is an amazing card with both fighters. You have two of the best fighters in their respective divisions fighting each other," Richard Schaefer said. "

Carl Frampton

"The first fight is a fight of the year and I dont think this will be different. I am happy to give him the rematch. If you want to be remembered 20-30 years from now these are the fights you want," Frampton said. "I have much respect for Leo, Muchas Gracias (Thank You),"

Barry McGuigan:

"In this fight you will get value for money,"

Shane McGuigan:

"Camp has been great. You will get the same decision and great fight,"

Leo Santa Cruz:

"Thank you all for sticking with me after my first loss. I am motivated and happy that I got the rematch," Santa Cruz said "The first fight I trained hard but I didnt train the way I was suppose to. We will put up a great fight like the first fight. Frampton is a great fighter, it will be an even fight. We will train hard, it will be a tough fight, we will give another fight of the year,"

Antonio Santa Cruz:

"We are putting in the work. My dad and my brother are having a strong camp. We are going to 100 percent to win that title back,"

Also in attendance at Thursdays press conference was WBC lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin () and former two-division world champion Mikey Garcia () of Oxnard as they will square off in the co-main event.

Mikey Garcia:

"I am happy with the support. I was gone for two years but I returned. Its my goal to win a third world title. It wont be easy. I am taking on a tough champion," Mikey Garcia said. "January 28 Mikey will be a good fight and the beginning. The best of my career is yet to come,"

Robert Garcia:

"We are happy to be on this card. Mike is motivated and ready to give a good fight,"

Dejan Zlaticanin:

"I am excited to be on this card. Everyone thinks Mikey is pound for pound but I will win this fight,"

January 28th Mikey will have a big opponent and I will go at him. I will defend my title and you will enjoy the fight,"
