Francisco Vargas vs. Miguel Berchelt Final Press Conference


WBC super featherweight champion Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KOs) of Mexico City and fellow Mexican brawler and WBO Interim super featherweight champion Miguel “El Alacran” Berchelt (30-1, 27 KOs) of Yucatan, Mexico held the final press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Paseo Inn Restaurant at the Historic Olvera Street Plaza in downtown Los Angeles for their showdown this Saturday at the Fantasy Springs Resort & Casino Events Center live on HBO Boxing After Dark.

"We are excited for this Saturday's show. These are the type of fights that should be on HBO. Eric Gomez said in opening the press conference.

The champion Francisco Vargas spoke about his title defense.

"I am happy to be back. I needed a rest but I am very motivated and ready to fight. This preparation was no different we worked hard and stayed disciplined for this upcoming defense. Berchelt is coming with everything," Vargas said. "Saturday we are ready to give a good fight. It has cost me a lot of hard work to win this title and I am not going to relinquish it, I will be victorious," Vargas added.

"We are ready for this fight, we expect a tough fighter this Saturday but we come well prepared. Berchelt says he comes well prepared but he will have to work hard because we are coming in more than 100 percent,"

"We come well prepared for this fight and I am ready. I am confident that I will win we are coming with everything and I expect a war," Miguel Bertchel said.

Bertchel's manager said.

"Miguel is very hungry, he has trained hard. We know this will be a war between two Mexican warriors. Miguel Berchelt will be victorious,"

Vargas vs. Berchelt will be a scheduled 12 round championship fight for Vargas’s WBC title as Vargas will be making his second title defense.

We had a great preparation in Mexico City, we were home and now we area ready. This will be a tough fight, he is a good fighter. I needed a rest but now I am excited to return I cant wait," Francisco Vargas told Southern California Boxing.com "I am ready to leave it all in the ring again," Vargas added.

"This is the biggest fight of my career. Vargas is a great champion. I am hungry to win and that's why I think this will be a great fight," Miguel Berchelt told Southern California Boxing.com

Also at Wednesday's press conference were former world champion Takashi Miura (30-3-2. 23 KO's) of Japan and his opponent Mikey Roman (56-11, 43 KO's) of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico as they talked about their showdown on the hBO Boxing After Dark co-feature.

"Mikey Roman is a tough powerful fighter. We know he will come to fight and I look forward to being victorious," Takashi Miura said.

"We have a great fight it's a hard fight but not impossible. We come for the knockout and we are going for it all," Mikey Roman said.
