Gennady "GGG" Golovkin Decisions Danny Jacobs

Undisputed middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 34 KOs) and Danny “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) squared off Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden on HBO Pay Per View. Golovkin backed Jacobs with the jab in the opening round boxing patiently. In round two Golovkin stalked as Jacobs kept his distance and circled. Jacobs landed a solid punc connected on Golovkin with a left hook in round three. However Golovkin returned the favor the following round in round four dropping Jacobs with a pair of right hands. 

 

The fifth round Golovkin boxed patiently connecting Jacobs with a right hand. In round six Jacobs kept his distance as he landed an overhand right. Past the halfway point Golovkin stalked Jacobs in the seventh as they closed the round with rough house tactics.  

 

Jacobs was active in round nine as he was outpacing and outworking the stalking Golovkin but "GGG" landed a pair of solid right uppercuts staggering Jacobs. The championship rounds Golovkin applied the pressure as Jacobs continued to fight on urging Golovkin to trade. Jacobs closed strong as Golovkin was stalking and receiving combinations, Jacobs closed the show.

 

Judges scored the fight 115-112, 115-112, and 114-113, and 113-112, as Golovkin wins a unanimous decision and becomes the undisputed middleweight champion.

 

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38 KOs) of Thailand pulled the upset in winning a questionable decision over previously undefeated and number one pound for pound Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KOs), out of Managua, Nicaragua. The Thai fighter scored a knockdown in the opening round sending Chocolatito to the canvas with a body shot. The action continued throughout the fight as Chocolatito was cut on the right eye. Chocolatito outworked Rungvisai but the That fighter continued to trade as Gonzalez kept attacking with a high volume of punches. The sixth round saw Chocolatito attack the body slowing down Rungvisai but another headbutt caused the cut on Gonzalez's eye to open. 

 

Past the halfway point the momentum was in Chocolatito's favor as Rungvisai continued to press. In round eight both fighters stood and traded in the center. Continuing to bleed from the cut on the right eye Chocolatito trickled and pressed as Rungvisai in round nine. Chocolatito was gushing from the cut as he continued to go at the Thai fighter Rungvisai landed big shots. Despite the bleeding Chocolatito kept pressing the action in the championship rounds but Rungvisai continued to fight tough as both closed the show strong. 

 

In the end the judges favored the heavy punches and blood from Chocolatito's cut persuaded the judges, scoring the bout 114-112, 114-112, and 113-113 as Sor Rungvisai pulls off the upset and wins the WBC super flyweight title.
 
Former WBC super flyweight champion Carlos “Principe” Cuadras (36-1-1, 27 KO’s) of Mexico City, Mexico returns to battle against cross-town rival won a unanimous decision over former world title challenger David “Severo” Carmona (20-4-5, 8 KOs) of Mexico City, Mexico. The former champ boxed early on controlling the pace. Cuadras got hit with a low blow in the seventh as Carmona stopped Cuadras's momentum as he landed an overhand right. In round eight Carmona landed another low blow for the second time as the referee warned him. Cuadras boxing made the difference against a very tough and game Carmona as the judges scored the bout 97-93, 97-93, and 96-94. 
 
Top lightweight prospect WBC lightweight Continental Americas champion Ryan “Blue Chip” Martin (18-0, 11 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio via Chattanooga, Tennessee, scored an impressive eigth round stoppage over Port Chester, New York’s Bryant “Pee Wee” Cruz (17-2, 8 KOs) in a scheduled ten rounder opening up the HBO pay per view. Martin landed the heavy right hand numerous times throughout the fight as he proved to be too much for Cruz and in round eight a barrage of punches forced the referee to stop the fight.
