Welterweights Mauricio "El Maestro" Herrera (24-7, 7 KOs) of Riverside and Jesus "Renuente" Soto Karass (28-12-4, 18 KOs) of Los Angeles by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico went to battle on the Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN main event at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
Herrera was more active in the opening rounds as he established his jab from the start. Soto Karass found his groove in the middle rounds as he kept his distance pressing Herrera who countered. The two continued to battle it out as Soto Karass pressed and bloodied Herrera but continued to fight on as they closed the show going toe to toe.
In the end the judges scored the bout 96-94, 96-94, and 95-95 as Mauricio Herrera pulls out the majority decision.
Light heavyweight Vyacheslav Shabranksy (19-1, 16 KOs) Todd Unthank May in a scheduled ten round bout. Shabranksy punished May throughout the fight as he suffered a cut above his left eye. After seven rounds May's corner had seen enough as the waived the bout.
Super Flyweight Ricardo Sandoval (8-1, 7 KOs) of Riverside won a unanimous decision over Antonio Rodriguez of Mexico in a scheduled six round bout.
East L.A.'s Jonathan Navarro (11-0, 7 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Angel Sarinana (7-7-2, 3 KOs) in a scheduled eight round bout. Navarro dropped Sarinana in the opening round with an overhand right. Continuing to tee off Navarro connected Sarinana with the short right following up with body shot combinations inside. Sarinana proved to be a tough opponent in giving Navarro all he can handle. Scores were 80-71, 80-71 and 79-72.
In the opening bout from Fantasy Springs in Indio, California super welterweight Marvin Cabrera (5-0, 4 KOs) of Los Angeles won a unanimous decision over Esau Herrera (19-9-1, 10 KOs). Cabrera had some work to put in as Herrera gave him all he can handle in route to a decision. Scores were 60-54, 59-55, and 59-55.
