Nashville, Tennessee's Caleb Plant (18-0, 10 KOs was victorious in winning the IBF super middleweight title as squared off against Jose Uzcategui (28-3, 23 KOs) Sunday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Plant started off fast going to the body as Uzcategui stalked to start. In round two, Plant connected Uzcategui with a as the champ went down, later in the round Uzcategui landed a flush straight right hand. The third round saw Uzcategui time Plant, as he continued to stalk.
The champ Uzcategui continued to stalk the fast handed Plant as he was on the receiving end of combinations. Late in the fight Plant continued to keep his distance and land combinations but Uzcategui continued to go forward landing big shots on a bloodied and tough Plant.
In the end the judges scored the bout 116-110, 116-110, and 115-111 as Caleb Plant wins the IBF super middleweight title.
Super welterweight prospect Joey Spencer (6-0, 6 KOs) of Linden, Michigan stopped Brandon Harder (2-2, 1 KO) of Mississippi. Spencer scored a flash knockdown, connecting with a right hand in the closing seconds of the opening round. Harder was down a second time in round two as Spencer landed another right. Spencer followed up with his attack sending Harder to the canvas a third time as referee Thomas Taylor waived the bout at of the second.
In a WBA super bantamweight eliminator Brandon Figueroa (17-0, 12 KOs) of Welasco, Texas stopped Moises Flores (25-1, 17 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico . In round three, Figueroa connected Flores with a looping left hook as he went down. Flores never recovered as Figueroa dropped him a second time forcing referee Jack Reiss to stop the fight at
Egyptian light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (17-1, 14 KOs) stopped Allan Green (33-6, 22 KOs). Elbiali dropped Green three times, once in each round as the referee stopped the fight at
Former world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (18-1, 12 KOs) returned to the ring with a first round knockout over Giovanni Delgado (16-9, 9 KOs). A straight left by Rigo right at the bell sent Delgado to the canvas as the referee reached a ten count at 3:00 of the first.
Super lightweight prospect Lindolfo Delgado (8-0, 8KOs) of Linares, Mexico scored a third round knockout Sergio Lopez (22-13-1, 15 KOs).
In the opening bout from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles super bantamweights Michael Plania (17-1, 10 KOs) of the Philippines and Juan Lopez (12-4, 4 KOs) of Dallas, Texas squared off. A body shot by Plania in the opening round sent Lopez to the canvas but the referee somehow ruled it a low blow giving Lopez time to recover. Plania was relentless throughout the bout as Lopez held his own
