Following their showdown newly crowned undisputed middleweight Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (52-1-2, 34 KOs) and Daniel "Miracle Man" Jacobs (35-3, 29 KOs) talked about their fight at the post fight press conference. The two squared off Saturday night in front of 20,203 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to determine the undisputed middleweight champion. In what was a hard fought and competitive fight by the two fighters Canelo prevailed in working his way to hard fought decision. Jacobs gave Canelo all he can handle in going the distance as the judges scored the fight 116-112, 115-113, & 115-113.
"I'm very happy. Jacobs its a great fighter. We knew it was going to be a difficult fight and I had the patients to come out with the victory," Canelo said in his opening comments at the post fight. "We knew the first few rounds were going to be difficult, it was a difficult fight but the important thing is that we won and added another title,"
"I have to go back to see my performance. I know it was back and forth action. Early on it was hard to get the rhythm of Canelo. I hope you all enjoy the fight. I'm just grateful to give the fans a good show. I thought I won the fight," Daniel Jacobs said.
"What a beautiful weekend for Cinco De Mayo. Our champion won in what was a close and difficult fight. Now lets celebrate this Cinco de Mayo," Oscar De La Hoya said. "It was a wonderful fight Jacobs as an amazing champion. I had Canelo winning by 2 or 3 points. Jacobs is a warrior. We are pleased," De La Hoya added.
"I mean who fights Golovkin back to back and then Jacobs," De La Hoya said.
"I thought it was a great atmosphere and the fight was competitive and close. The best man won today," Eddie Hearn said.
With the win Saul "Canelo" Alvarez becomes the undisputed middleweight champion setting the stage for a potential third fight with Gennady "G.G.G." Golovkin as he was seated ringside. Golovkin is scheduled to take on Steve Rolls in June at the Garden in New York. Another champion seated ringside for the fight was WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade.
"Right now I will rest. My objective is to win all four titles. The other champ fights in June and we will come out with the decision," Canelo said. "We want that title that's the objective to win all four title at middleweight. To become the undisputed middleweight champion of the world,"
"We haven't spoke about his next fights. He has lots of options for now we will enjoy the victory and within time we will see what next. There's lots of options for him Callum Smith, Kovalev at 175. He has lots of options. One thing about Canelo is he never shy's away from a challenge,"
"Canelo's wish is to unify all the belts. Canelo has expressed interest in fighting in Wembley Stadium in England, Dallas and Jerry Jones. A trilogy with G.G.G. is also possible,"
When asked about a potential fight in Mexico City.
"I really cant comment on that,"
"We will do is get together with the team and do the top fights. One fight he would like to do is Callum Smith with Eddie (Hearn) in Wembley. He wants to fight the top fights. He is in a great position," Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez said.
Daniel Jacobs spoke about his performance in coming up short and relinquishing the title.
"I tip my hat off to the guy. I wasn't surprised that he was able to take some good shots. I do think I was effective. His timing was good for me its going back to drawing board and see what I can do better,"
"It was a great performance. This will not be the end of me,"
"Its questionable for me to fight at middleweight. I might have outgrown my body and now I will take my skills to super middleweight,"

Eddie Hearn on a potential fight between Joseph Diaz and IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer of Philadelphia.
"I want to get together with Oscar and Eric. So we can put some fights about eight fights. Tevin Farmer has been an active champion. He wants to call his shots now and I think Jo Jo is formidable opponent,"
