In what was a huge upset, newly crowned Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz Jr (33-1, 22 KOs) of Imperial Valley, California stopped WBA/IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) of England seven rounds Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Joshua sat Ruiz down in the third round with a left hook as Ruiz quickly got up. Returning the favor, Ruiz drilled Joshua with a left hook to the temple staggering the champ and moments later knocked him down. Joshua was down a second time in the third and was saved by the bell. Ruiz closed the show in the seventh dropping Joshua twice as referee Michael Griffin stopped the fight after the champ failed to respond. Time was 1:27.

Ruiz is the new heavyweight champion of the world and becomes the first ever Mexican heavyweight champion.
