Local lightweight Carlos "The Solution" Morales (19-4-4, 8 KOs) of Los Angeles and Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta (32-3-3, 17 KOs) of San Diego fought to a sixth round technical decision in the Golden Boy DAZN Thursday Night Fights main event at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. It was a tactical first round as Morales and Gesta felt each other out but the action picked up at the end of the round. Morales and Gesta fought at a fast pace in round two as they both went at each other. Gesta attacked Morales to start the third as Morales kept his composure and later landed a solid right hand that stopped Gesta's momentum. Morales suffered a cut on his left eye late in the third . The blood flowed down Morales's eye in the fourth as it appeared to be bothering him, Gesta began to target the cut and box. It appeared that Morales did not see the punches coming in the fifth as Gesta landed the right hand numerous times but Morales kept fighting on.
The Filipino came out attacking the body in the sixth but Morales held his own firing back as the blood continued to flow from the cut. Morales went back to corner after completing round and could not continue due to the cut on his left eye as they went the scorecards. After completing six rounds the judges scored the bout 58-56 for Morales, as the other two judges scored it even 57-57.
Super featherweights Jonathan Oquendo (31-6, 19 KOs) of Bayamon, Puerto Rico Charles Huerta (21-7, 12 KOs) of Paramount, California in the co-feature winning the vacant WBO Latino super featherweight title. Starting off fighting on the inside Huerta and Oquendo exchanged. Coming out firing, Oquendo landed a solid over hand right and stayed close inside as Huerta stood in the pocket exchanging. The fight continued on the inside in round three as Oquendo outworked Huerta. Continuing to fight in a phone booth in the fourth, Oquendo was relentless as Huerta could not keep him off. In the fifth round, the fight continued inside as neither took a step back.
Past the halfway point in the sixth, Oquendo ripped the body and kept busy as he had Huerta on the ropes most of the round. The Puerto Rican was the fresher of the two heading into the seventh as Oquendo kept backing Huerta to the ropes and outworked him. Late in the fight it was all Oquendo as his relentlessness was too much for Huerta, working his way to a unanimous decision victory. All three judges scored the bout 100-90
Travell "Black Magic" Mazion (16-0, 12 KOs) of Austin, Texas won a hard fought unanimous decision over a very tough Diego Cruz (19-8-2, 15 KOs) going the distance in a 10-round super welterweight bout. The Mexican, Cruz came out firing as Mazion connected with the right hand counters but later in the round Cruz got Mazion's attention landing a solid wild right hand. Mazion closed the opening round strong as he had landed a solid right hand followed by a left hook. Despite getting tagged earlier, Mazion kept his composure in round two landing some snapping power shots and backing Cruz. Boxing patiently in round three, Mazion teed off as he snapped Cruz's head with solid shots. Maintaining his distance in the fourth, Mazion outworked a fading Cruz as he appeared to be tiring. The fifth round saw Mazion boxing away, later in the round exchanging punches Cruz suffered a cut above the left eye.
Halfway through in the sixth, Cruz continued to fight but Mazion was the fresher of the two as he boxed away. Swinging wildly, Cruz connected with an overhand right in the seventh as he kept fighting on, referee Raul Caiz Sr. later deducted a point from Mazion for a low blow. Cruz was aggressive to start the eighth as Maizon continued to keep his distance. Cruz and Maizon exchanged to start the ninth and later in the round a straight right followed by an uppercut landed solidly for Maizon. The tenth and final round saw Maizon fighting conservatively as Cruz pressed and looked for the finishing shot
In the end the judges scored the bout 99-90, 99-90, and 98-91.
Lightweight Oscar Acevedo (6-0) of Garden City, Kansas won a unanimous decision over Darel Harris (3-18-1, 1 KO) of Sarasota, Florida in a scheduled four-round bout. Acevedo was flashy in starting off and maintained his distance as Harris pressed and looked to get in. Shooting the straight left to the mid section and countering with the right hook, Acevedo kept his poise in round two as Harris kept busy going forward. Continuing to box, Acevedo connected Harris with the counter right hook in round three but Harris landed a solid right hand to close the round. The fourth and final round, Harris stayed busy and kept coming as Acevedo kept boxing. Scores 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37.
In the opening bout from the Belasco Theater in downtown welterweight Evan Anthony Sanchez (6-0, 5KOs) scored a 23 second knockout over Hector Hernandez (2-2, 1 KO). A right hook followed by a straight left did it as Sanchez sent Hernandez to the canvas. Hernandez was up but referee Raul Caiz Sr. waived the bout.
