Miguel Berchelt Stops Eleazar Valenzuela in Six
WBC super featherweight Miguel Berchelt (38-1, 34 KOs) returned Saturday night with a sixth stoppage over Eleazar Valenzuela (21-14-4, 16 KOs) in headlining the ESPN telecast from the TV Azteca Studios in Mexico City.
Berchelt fighting at lightweight was a slow start as he stuck the jab but ripped Valenzuela to the body a couple of times. Late in the closing seconds of the first round, Berchelt dropped Valenzuela with a left hook. Berchelt carried Valenzuela for five more rounds as a series of punches by Berchelt forced the referee to stop the fight.
Ensenada, Mexico's super lightweight Omar “Pollo” Aguilar (18-0, 17 KOs) made quick work of Dante “Crazy” Jardon (32-7, 23 KOs) in less than a minute. Aguilar came out shooting away, landing a solid right hand that backed Jardon as the young 21 year old prospect was on the attack forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight at 55 seconds of the opening round.
Super bantamweight David Picasso (14-1, 5KOs) won a hard fought unanimous decision over Florentino Perez (14-6-2, 9KOs). Picasso was busy in the opening round as he let his hands go. It was a busy fight for Picasso as Perez was tough in the early rounds. It was all Picasso as he was effective with the combinations and solid shots. Perez displayed toughness throughout the fight as he made Picasso work hard for the win in going the distance. There was a total of six judges scoring this fight as the scores 80-72, 80-72, 80-72, 79-73, 79-74, and 78-74. Featherweight Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza (14-0, 12 KOs) won a TKO over Luis Guzman (8-14, 1 KO). Guzman suffered a cut on his right eye which forced the stoppage.
Junior welterweight prospect Ruben “Pollito” Aguilar (10-0, 7 KOs), won a unanimous decision over Emanuel Herrera (7-11, 1 KO) in going six-rounds. Scores were 60-54, 60-54, 59-56.
