Angel Fierro KO's Alberto Machado in Six to Score the Upset

Ring City USA returned to Puerto Rico Thursday night as late replacement Angel Fierro (18-1-1, 14 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico bounced off the canvas twice rallying to knockout former world champion Alberto Machado (22-2, 18 KOs) of Puerto Rico in the Ring City USA lightweight main event on NBC Sports Network. Machado sent Fierro to the canvas twice in the first and second round. Later in the fight, Fierro closed the gap and in the sixth round, a huge left hook knocked Machado out cold as the fight was stopped 47 seconds into the sixth round.


Light heavyweights Joe Ward (3-1, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Marco Delgado (7-2, 5 KOs). Ward had his way for six rounds, scoring a shutout victory and avenging his only defeat. All three judges scored the bout 60-54.








In a female middleweight bout, Alma Ibarra (8-1, 4 KOs) won a unanimous decision over former world title challenger Maricela ‘La Diva’ Cornejo (13-5, 5 KOs). Scores were 79-73, 79-73, and 77-75.


Bantamweights Jose “Chiquro” Martinez, (21-1-3, 14 KOs) and three-time world title challenger Israel “Jiga” Gonzalez (26-4-1, 11 KOs) battled it in going the distance ten rounds draw.


Former world champion Angel ‘Tito’ Acosta, (22-2, 21 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Gilberto Mendoza (17-9-3, 8 KOs) in going the distance eight rounds. All three judges scored the bout 79-72.
