Barrera and Soto Karass Slug It Out in Exhibition at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena

Boxing returned to the Pico Rivera Sports Arena. Friday night for “The Return of the Legends,” as former world champion Marco “Baby Face” Antonio Barrera (67-7, 44 K.O.) of Mexico City and fan favorite slugger Jesus Soto Karass (29-13-4, 18 K.O.) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa squared off in the main event exhibition between the two Mexican warriors. It was an entertaining fight as the two fighters went six rounds toe to toe and at times forgot it was an exhibition as they got into some good exchanges throughout the fight.

The night also included special guest former world champions Erik Morales, and Antonio Margarito. Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva in attendance at ringside catching the action.

Other bouts

Pico Rivera’s Angel “El Moreno” Rodriguez (9-0, 6 K.O.) scored a third round knockout over Bergman Aguilar (15-7-1). Moreno dropped Aguilar four times in the fight with crunching left hooks to the body as the referee stopped the fight after the fourth knockdown at 1:40 of the third.

Super-welterweight division, WBC champion Bryan Flores (16-0) will be taking on Manny Woods (17-11-1)

Diego Padilla (1-2-1) and Ukrainian, Oleg Zubenko (3-1-1) battled it out for four rounds in a super middleweight bout. Padilla and Zubenko fought on in an entertaining fight to the final bell as the judges scored the bout 39-37, 38-38, & 38-38.

Lightweight Cris Reyes (9-0, 8 K.O.) seeking a tenth victory against Braullio Avila (3-8).

South Los Angeles featherweight Pablo “Bam Bam” Meglar and Adrian “Cuban Link” Leyna went the distance in a 4-round match. Melgar and Leyna exchanged throughout the course not taking a step back to the final bell. 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37 as Leyna took the decision.

The super-featherweight division, Oliver “El Gallo Negro” Galicia (3-0-1, KO) went toe-to-toe with Michael Land (1-2-1) in going the distance. It was a battle and in the final round Land dropped Galica. All three judges scored it even 37-37 as the knockdown made the difference.

In the welterweight division, Long Beach’s Tyrell Washington (3-0, 1 KO), scored a first round knockout over Gino Montoya. A straight left did it as Montoya hit the canvas getting up but was unable to continue. The referee stopped the fight at 1:19 of the first.
