Canelo GGG 3 LA Press Conference

The third chapter in the Canelo GGG rivalry is set. Mexican superstar undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KO’s) and Kazakhstan’s Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KO’s) will renew their rivalry for a third time. The two fighters were on hand Thursday in Hollywood to officially announce their showdown taking place Saturday September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas live on DAZN.

"This is personal for me. I don't pretend to be another person or say things to media or other places. Then come here and pretend like he dont say anything. Its personal he says a lot of things. He is two different people pretending to be a nice guy but he's an asshole. He talks a lot of shit," Canelo said at the press conference. "

"I don't take this personal. I go out to box. If he has something personal that's his problem not mine," Golovkin said at the press conference. "I'm confident

"This fight has everything two global icons of the sport of boxing, two legends of the sport of boxing. The unified champion of the world Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. We cannot wait for this fight, 24 rounds and I believe this time you will get a better fight on September 17," Eddie Hearn said.

Last time Canelo and Golovkin met at middleweight in September of 2018 in a rematch. Alvarez edged out Golovkin by a split decision, in a battle that could’ve gone either way. Prior to that the previous year, Canelo and Golovkin fought to a draw.

Since their last fight, Canelo moved up to super middleweight to conquer all the champions in the division and unifying. Golovkin and his previous trainer Abel Sanchez parted ways, making room for new trainer and former heavyweight contender Jonathan Banks. Once again becoming champion by winning a hard-fought decision over Sergey Derevyanchenko, picking up the vacant IBF middleweight title and successfully defending the title three times and unifying.

Canelo last month was on the losing end of a decision to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Now Alvarez will defend his WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, & Ring Magazine super middleweight titles against Golovkin.

Golovkin was in an action-packed fight his last time in the ring, scoring a ninth-round stoppage over Ryota Murata this past April in Japan.
