Erika Cruz Upsets Jelena Mrdjenovich

Mexico’s Erika Cruz (13-1-0, 3 KOs) won the biggest fight of her career with a dominating technical decision upset over long-reigning WBA Featherweight World Champion Jelena Mrdjenovich (41-11-2, 19 KOs) in Thursday night’s Ring City USA main event on NBC Sports Network and live from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.


Angel Ruiz (17-1, 12 KOs) and Bobirzhan Mominov (12-1, 8 KOs) met in an action-packed 10-round welterweight fight. Ruiz, 23, of Tijuana, Mexico, who now resides in Los Angeles. Mominov applied the pressure as the judges scored the bout 76-73, 76-73, and 75-74.


In the co-main event on NBC Sports Network, which opened the telecast, Juan Pablo Romero (14-0, 9 KOs) earned a unanimous decision over veteran Deiner Berrio (22-3-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight fight.


Christian Mbilli (18-0, 17 KOs) remained perfect with a fifth-round technical knockout over Jesus Antonio Gutierrez (27-5-2, 14 KOs) in a super middleweight fight.


Undefeated 19-year-old rising phenom Jalen Walker (8-0-1, 7 KOs) was tested by Angel Antonio Contreras (11-4-2, 7 KOs) in a six-round featherweight fight that resulted in a split draw.


Junior lightweight prospect and U.S. Army veteran Daniel Bailey (4-0, 3 KOs) opened the show with a first-round knockout against Luis Alvarado (1-3).
