Houston’s WBC super featherweight champion, O’Shaquie Foster (25-3, 12 KOs), successfully defended his title against Raymond Ford (18-2, 8 KOs) of New Jersey by majority decision on Saturday night at the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas, in the DAZN main event.
Things started off rough as Foster shoved Ford out of the ring in the opening round, drawing a stern warning from the referee. Following the chaos, both fighters settled into a tactical chess match, each landing sharp shots. The fight appeared even heading into the halfway point in the sixth round. Ford boxed effectively from the southpaw stance, while Foster was the aggressor, pressing forward behind his one-two combination.
Past the halfway mark in the seventh, Ford began to let his hands go more freely, but Foster’s jab proved effective in neutralizing the southpaw. Foster displayed excellent ring generalship and confidence in the eighth, boxing well as Ford appeared to be tiring, although Ford did connect with a solid left hand late in the round. Ford landed a right hand to begin the ninth, but Foster continued to work behind the jab and one-two combination while effectively countering Ford’s offense.
Late in the fight, Ford opened the tenth round with a solid right hand, but Foster began to stick and move, firing quick flurries. Ford’s right hand found the mark again, halting Foster’s momentum and helping him close the round strongly.
The championship rounds saw Foster step up his aggression, backing Ford to the ropes in the eleventh. The champion remained composed, using his jab to keep Ford at a distance. It was all Foster in the final round as he came out aggressively and let his hands go. Ford appeared fatigued, and Foster finished the fight strongly.
After twelve rounds, the judges scored the bout 118-110, 116-112, and 114-114, allowing Foster to retain his WBC super featherweight title by majority decision. Foster improves to 25-3, 12 KOs, making his fourth overall defense over two reigns, having “loaned” the belt for Brazil’s Robson Conceição for four months in 2024 before taking it back. Ford for his part, drops to 18-2-1, 8 KOs.
