Super welterweight 2016 US Olympian Charles Conwell (13-0, 10 KOs) stopped Kazakhstan's Madiyar Ashkeyev (14-1, 7 KOs) in handing him his first defeat headlining Ring City USA final card of the year from the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.
Conwell was smooth in the ring boxing away and tagging the Kazakh fighter throughout the fight. Conwell connected solidly as Ashkeyev turned away from Conwell's attack a few times. Ashkeyev's corner was concerned late in the fight heading into the ninth round. Following the ninth, Ashkeyev's corner and referee Jack Reiss mutually agreed to stop the fight.
Women's featherweight champion Jelena Mrdjenovich (41-10-2, 19 KOs) defended her WBA Featherweight World title winning a unanimous decision against tough Mexican challenger Iranda Paola Torres (12-5-1, 4 KOs) in the co-feature. The champ, Mrdjenovich suffered a cut on her right eye early in the fight from a headbutt as Torres applied pressured. Mrdjenovich boxed as Torres kept coming attacking Mrdjenovich as she continued to bleed from the eye late in the fight. It was close late in the fight as the Mexican continued to pressure the champ and stay in the pocket. Mrdjenovich and Torres fought on to the final bell. In the judges scored the bout 98-82, 97-93, and 96-94.
Junior featherweight Eduardo Baez (18-1-2, 6 KOs) of Mexico handed NarekNarek Abgaryan (14-1, 6 KOs) of Armenia . Baez used his height reach boxing from the outside as Abgaryan stalked in the early rounds. In round three, Baez stood close and pressed, Abgaryan cirlced the ring and boxed. There was a nasty cut on Baez forehead from a headbutt but continued to stay on top of Abgaryan as he continued to box. The pressure continued continued from Baez as he ripped Abgaryan letting his hands go in outworking the Armenian fighter. 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73.
