Rolly Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) scored an unexpected twelve round unanimous decision over Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA “regular” welterweight title on Saturday night in a temporary ring outdoors in New York City’s Times Square. Romero dropped Garcia hard with a big left hook in round two. Garcia survived the round, but Romero continued to press and Garcia appeared tentative the rest of the way. Judges scored it 115-112, 115-112, 118-109.

WBO junior lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) retained his world title with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten #1 ranked Arnold Barboza 32-1, 11 KOs). Scores were 116-112, 116-112, 118-110.

In a non-title welterweight clash between former world champions, Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) won a twelve round snoozer against Jose Ramirez (29-3, 18 KOs). Haney was tentative early on but was able to outbox and frustrate Ramirez en route to a 119-109, 119-109, 118-110 unanimous decision.
