Ukrainian Super welterweight slugger Serhii “El Flaco” Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs) is ready for his second crack at Brandon Adams (25-4, 16 KOs) of Los Angeles and ready to prove he’s the best 154-pound fighter in the world. Bohachuk will square off against Adams in a rematch next week Saturday September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, headlining the YouTube-streamed Canelo Crawford preliminary undercard.

“I feel great, I’m excited, and I’m ready. This is a big show, I’m very happy to be on this show to show the people who is the best 154,” Serhii Bohachuk told SouthernCaliforniaBoxing.com “It’s a big fight for me, it’s a big show, big arena,” Bohachuk added.

Bohachuck suffered his first ever pro defeat back in March 2021 at the hands of Brandon Adams in Puerto Rico. Riding an undefeated 18-0 record, Bohachuk was stopped in the seventh round, experiencing his first blemish now he gets a shot at redemption.

“What I learned in that fight is that I needed to lose, I was 17-0, I wasn’t experienced, I was stupid,” Bohachuk said chuckling away. “I remember I was young in that fight, before that fight, I didn’t have experience in the later rounds, before that I only had seven rounds, 17 fights, and every fight by KO,” Bohachuk added.

Since his defeat to Adams, Bohachuk bounced back winning seven straight fights. Last year, Bohachuk captured the WBC interim title defeating Brian Mendoza by unanimous decision.

“I’m smarter now, I have more experience, more rounds and I’m different,” Bohachuk said.

The title reign was short lived as Bohachuk relinquished the title dropping a close and controversial majority decision to Vergil Ortiz in battling it out in a slugfest last year in a summer scorcher. A fight in which Bohachuk sent Ortiz to the canvas twice but somehow Bohachuk was at the short end of the decision.

“I can beat Ortiz one more time. It will be an interesting fight for the fans because the last time, it was a great fight,” Bohachuk said.

Following the controversial decision defeat, Bohachuk has won two straight fights winning a sixth-round stoppage over Ishmael Davis and is coming off a unanimous decision over Mykal Fox in May.

Preparations have been underway, early in the summer I came across a very enthusiastic Bohachuk as he informed me, he was slated to fight September 13 on the Canelo Crawford undercard. Beginning his camp at Knockouts Boxing Gym in South Gate, California with one of boxing’s most respected trainers, Manuel Robles, the team has since relocated to the high-altitude Southern California mountains in Big Bear, California as they gear up for the rematch with Adams.

“I have the best training camp in Big Bear with Manny Robles and my team. I’m back in the same gym that I trained with Abel Sanchez. This is the gym where I started my career,” Bohachuk described camp. “Everybody is working sparring and running, I’m ready,” Bohachuk added.

For the 36-year-old Adam’s, it has been a different path since his victory over Bohachuk. The Contender Season 2 winner was inactive for two years, returning last year scoring a knockout over Ismael Villareal and winning a unanimous decision over Francisco Veron. Adams dropped a split decision to Andreas Katzourakis last year in November as he comes into the rematch against Bohachuk.

“He is a smart boxer and his different now because he is older now and now, I’m stronger and I was young. Now, I know I’m different, with more experience and quality rounds,” Bohachuk on Brandon Adams.

A revenge victory for Bohachuk on this stage will not only garnish exposure on the biggest stage of the year but also get him closer to a shot at the title. The WBC number one contender hopes for a shot at a rematch with interim champion Vergil Ortiz or lineal WBC champion Sebastian Fundora.

“After this fight, I’m interested in the best. I’m interested in Fundora, Ortiz, and everyone who is the best in my division,” Bohachuk on potential fights with Fundora or Ortiz. “Make the fight. I don’t think Vergil wants this fight; it will hurt his career and I’m a big problem. Fundora is a possible fight, I’m number in the WBC give me a chance. I’m ready,”

Other interesting matchup possibilities include, newly crowned WBO champion Xander Zayas as Bohachuk is ranked fourth with the sanctioning body and rated fifth by the IBF, a fight with Russia’s IBF champion Bakram Murtazaliev would be a slugfest.

“For me, I’m interested in fighting the best. I’m number one give me Fundora,” Bohachuk on is #1 contender status.

The journey towards a world title continues next Saturday for Bohachuk as Adams stands in his path as “El Flaco” on his quest to avenge his first defeat.
